STORAGE
Tea is a sensitive commodity and is prone to become spoiled. Our teas are packed according to their characteristics once they are produced; however, the savour of tea will be changed gradually after the pack is opened and the tea is interacted with air, light, moisture, and temperature. To preserve its authentic quality, here are some suggestions –
Minimise The Contact with Oxygen
Oxidisation can alter the flavour of tea drastically and accelerate the development of undesirable and stale smells. The best solution is to enjoy your tea as soon as possible once it is opened. For unfinished teas, squeeze the air out from the bag and seal it properly. Putting it into a zipper bag from the other side can offer an extra protection.
Keep Away from Moisture and Odour
Tea is a powerful absorption agent of moisture and odour. Therefore, always take out tea leaves with a scoop to avoid contact with the grease, moisture, and smell on hands. After opening, use air-tight container or desiccator for storage and keep it alone in a cool and dry spot.
Avoid Light and Heat
Light and heat both hasten the oxidation process and they are the major culprits for deterioration of tea leaves. It is strongly recommended to store tea in a shaded and cool place with good ventilation.
Store under Room Temperature or Lower
Generally, room temperature is good enough for a short period of storage (within one month). For storage up to six months, the temperature is suggested to remain between 0°C to 5°C. Repeated refrigeration and thawing should be avoided. Reinstate the tea leaves to room temperature before opening the pack as the moisture in the air can condense on the cold leaves.
