TEA CULTURE
Culture stems from life. The background and custom from different eras contribute to the transformation of tea in processing, brewing, tasting, utensil using, and even the perception towards tea. Originally used in medicine, tea started to be boiled and drunk as a beverage in Han Dynasty. Later in Tang Dynasty, tea was associated with ritual and spiritual realm. In Song Dynasty, tea was praised in all sorts of artistries when tea competition “Doucha” was extremely popular. The exquisite brewing in small teapots in Ming Dynasty and covered teacups in Qing Dynasty had further enriched the ambience and temperament of tea.
Tea culture is composed of Confucianism, Daoism, and Zen – it is the essence of oriental ethos. Materially, tea is a beverage and the joy to palate that people pursue at all times, yet for tea lovers there is something more – it is the epitome of aesthetic lifestyle and the profound consolation of awakened minds. The intrinsic philosophy in tea brewing and appreciation brings tranquillity and balance via the etiquettes – and further, it fulfils one’s craving to connect and unify with nature.
The diversified tea culture today embodies its graciousness and open-mindedness. It gets closer to our daily life than ever and one can enjoy tea in accordance with his own preference. As long as one relishes the simple pleasure in tea drinking, it is a beautiful experience for both mind and heart.
